about

What you see here is a collection of recording artists from New Zealand, Australia, the USA and Germany...

They have been picked for this comp by Rebel High's co-founder Freddy Fudd Pucker (aka Bill Young). Freddy's criteria for being on this comp is more about being fucking interesting, proactive, artistic and nice people than people with potential for 'success'... 'if only they were given the exposure'.

Over the last 4 years Freddy has toured these continents extensively, playing in bedrooms, clubs, tree-houses, kitchens, gas stations, festivals, hotel bathrooms, elevators, rooftops, attics, basements and laundromats. These shows are usually organized by people who just want to create something special and unique. Often with highly eclectic bills. The kinda shows where bands are making their merch five minutes before "showtime". Where kids with pocket money share beer with kids without pocket money. Where huge pots of vegetables are cooked and shared. Where people feel comfortable drawing pictures with crayons on the floor while the band performs. Where the bands, and some of the audience, sleep around the drum-kit at the end of the night.

In a world gone genuinely insane with neo-liberal economics and TV wars that look nothing like the horror of what they are, these shows and home/DIY recordings become incredibly important to some. A way of expressing discontent. A way of laughing at ones situation. Or just an escape from suburban hell... If only for a few minutes

Most of the bands on this comp were met and befriended at places similar to the aforementioned events. By no means do they all share the same political, social or artistic ideals. Wouldn't that be fuckin' boring?. They're also not "on" Rebel High Records. They've just agreed to have their song sit next to another here.

DISCLAIMER (not an apology):
These songs are recorded in many different ways, in many different situations. Some sound "better" than others. Some are really well mastered and are loud as shit. Others you might have to turn up a little. I encourage the listener to hear the art form for what it is, not for what radio, tv, fat wreck chords, your friend that went to sound engineering school, or you think music should sound like. All of these acts make music because they can't help but make it... Try to hear that.

The listener is also encouraged to check out the links provided in each track's info. You'll probably find a song you love even more than the one you find here.

THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER ACTS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN ON THIS... IF PEOPLE DIG THIS, THERE WILL BE A SECOND COMP COMING REALLY REALLY SOON!!!

Thanks for reading this rant...

about

Rebel High Records Berlin, Germany

Rebel High is reborn! This time it comes from nowhere... The internet. The gutter. Your heart. A multi-genre label that has no money, based on sharing real music made by real people from all over the world. People that make art because they have to. People that book each other shows in basements below weird, little towns, for no money... People that rule.
